FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does an eye exam include?

Eye exams at Bass Lake Family Eye Care are comprehensive, checking the complete health of the eyes in addition to determining your glasses prescription. A thorough health check involves either a dilated exam or photos taken with our high-resolution digital camera.

How often should I have an eye exam?

Our doctors recommend annual eye exams to ensure the health of your eyes and to keep your glasses prescription current. Contact lens wearers need to have an eye exam every year.

I’ve worn contacts for a long time—why do I need to have a contact lens fitting done every year?

Since contact lenses are a medical device, something that actually goes into your body, it is necessary that the fit, function, and health of these devices be evaluated on a yearly basis, at the very least.  An ill-fitting or unhealthy contact lens can cause many problems, and we require our contact lens wearers to come back every year for their safety.

When should my child have their first eye exam?

In addition to a vision screening with their pediatrician, our doctors recommend that children have a baseline eye exam before starting kindergarten. Your child’s eyes will be evaluated for proper health and function.

How much does an eye exam cost?

Bass Lake Family Eye Care accepts most insurance plans, and many insurance plans cover a routine eye exam. If you have any questions about your insurance coverage, you should call the number on the back of your card. If you pay up front for your exam, our cost is $109.94 for a new patient and $99.92 for a previous patient. Prices are different when we are submitting to an insurance company, and if your insurance denies your claim, you will be responsible for the amount billed. Contact lens fittings start at $36.00 and depend on the type of contact lens selected.

Do you have evening and weekend appointments?

Bass Lake Family Eye Care’s last appointment is 7:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. We are also open from 8:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

What can I do with my old glasses?

Bass Lake Family Eye Care proudly accept donations of old glasses for the Lion’s Club.
